Safe Place / solo exhibition

I'm happy to share that my second solo exhibition Safe Place is opening today at Galerie Pugliese Levi in Berlin from 14:00 - 20:00.

Safe Place
07/05/ - 06/07/2022

Safe Place presents recent paintings along with a series of ink drawings on paper. Repetition, as a soothing and meditative act, is the main focus of Újszászi’s work and the theme of this exhibition. Departing from the special weaving techniques and small foldings of previous installations, gestural repetitions take place here on canvas. Taming the passing of time and overcoming her fears remain Tünde Újszászi’s preoccupations, along with her original research on the medium and all its possible uses.
(Galerie Pugliese Levi)

Repetition is safe. The reason why I always aspire to achieve it is because I’m afraid to immerse myself in the void.
(Tünde Újszászi)

With broken hearts we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and for the defence of fundamental human rights.
We considered canceling this exhibition, as it seemed unconceivable to continue showing art in the actual context.
Instead, we’ve chosen to use this opportunity to actively support those hit by this tragedy. The gallery’s profits from this exhibition will be entirely donated to UNHCR The UN Refugees Agency.
We pray for peace.

Delta installation / solo exhibition

We are delighted to present Delta, an installation by Tünde Újszászi, which is on display in our window until 8 August 2021. A few more recent works are on view in the gallery until summer holidays (28 June) as a preview of Újszászi's upcoming solo show in 2022.
(Galerie Pugliese Levi)

The artwork 'Delta' symbolises the nature of change. Paper as medium embodies temporality, since objects created from this soft material are constantly changing with the passing of time. Impermanence is its inherent nature. I find it exciting to explore ways of creating textile structures with minimal use of material and equipment. Reimagining seemingly useless objects as sculptural medium only by way of the repetitive structure of weaving.
